Excerpts from the book "Diamond Rocks":
"The Winter of 1971 I found myself sharing an apartment with a number of other boys and girls my age. A room in an upper west Side apartment had become vacant so I moved in. I was there a only a couple of months when a great snowstorm blew into town and the other tenants decided to give up the apartment and drive to Florida. With my unemployment check coming regularly and my distaste for freezing cold I joined them and we packed up and took turns driving day and night until we were in sunny Cocoanut Grove, FL. Soon after we found a local host who enjoyed having his house always full of friends, the brother of the novelist Harold Robbins, a man who had a curved spine from an accident. He was generous and fun loving and it was there that I met David Peel from the band “The Lower East Side”. For Easter we all went to Puerto Rico for the Mar y Sol music festival and I remember playing tambourine and dancing in my pink bikini onstage with some bands and I remember BB King talking to me when I had fallen asleep in the back of his pick-up truck. In the evening we all enjoyed the company of Alice Cooper at a casino while he played roulette." |
